The pictures below are from Bonn, which was West Germany's capital from 1949 to 1990 and is still the seat of many of the country's ministries. It is also the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven.
The town, more elegant than quaint, was perfect for strolling and a great prelude to overcrowded, nondescript Cologne.
We did not explore the inside of the Romanesque cathedral because an Easter Monday mass had just begun.
