Beer of the Day #2: Duvel ale, Breendonk, Belgium

Once again, a Flemish beer (don't worry--we're actually headed to Chimay in Wallonia to taste that monastery's eponymous brew), albeit an obvious and ubiquitous one. For beer connoisseurs who may think this choice unimaginative, consider the fact that Duvel cost the equivalent of $1.25 a bottle here instead of ~$3.50 per.

For those of you on the High Life budget, this beer is the influence for Blue Moon (and other blond ale copycats) back in the States. I made the mistake last night of pouring this into a regular pint-glass, which led to a four-inch head and wet tablecloth. Humbled and wisened, tonight I poured it into a proper Belgian ale glass (as you can see in this picture, taken in Jessica and Manuel's back yard). We're off to Bonn and Cologne tomorrow, which should yield some good drinking!

Cheers.
